INDIVIDUAL & COUPLES THERAPY
about me
Welcome
My name is Katy Piontsak and I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) with a focus on clinical psychotherapy. I specialize in helping adults navigate anxiety, stress, trauma, and relationship challenges using evidence-based therapeutic techniques. My goal is to support clients in developing self-awareness, healing from past wounds, strengthening relationships, and achieving personal growth.

With years of experience in private practice, I provide both individual and couples therapy, working collaboratively with clients to uncover the root causes of emotional distress, challenge limiting beliefs, and build effective coping strategies. Whether you're struggling with chronic stress, anxiety, or relationship difficulties, I offer a compassionate, personalized approach to help you move forward.

I offer both virtual and in-person therapy in Birmingham, Michigan, making mental health and relationship support accessible and convenient. If you're ready to start your journey toward healing and fulfillment, I’m here to help.

my approach
I take an evidence-based, eclectic, person-centered, and trauma-informed approach to therapy. This means I use scientifically proven treatment methods tailored to each client’s unique needs and goals. My training includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)—all effective techniques for addressing anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, and personal growth.
A Humanistic, Person-Centered Approach
My therapeutic style is rooted in the humanistic, person-centered (Rogerian) approach, emphasizing empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard. Inspired by Carl Rogers’ belief that people thrive in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment, I strive to create a safe space where clients feel accepted, heard, and empowered to explore their thoughts and emotions.
Trauma-Informed Care for Holistic Healing
I utilize a trauma-informed perspective based on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) principles, recognizing that trauma affects people in diverse ways. By approaching every session with sensitivity and awareness, I help clients navigate their healing journey with understanding and compassion.
Empowering You to Take Charge of Your Life
As your therapist, my goal is to provide practical tools and resources to improve symptoms, highlight your strengths, and guide you toward self-awareness, self-actualization, and personal empowerment. I believe that you are the expert in your own lived experience, and I am here to support you in building the life you want.
I look forward to meeting you and walking alongside you on your path to healing and growth.
